Mid ZThe Mid Z-Mode setting is the sound of traditional active bass. This clean, clear sound is considered highly desirable and about 50% of the basses sold fall in this sound category. In a traditional setup, the impedance load on the pickups was set by the combined effects of the volume and balance pots and the input impedance of the preamp module. We have selected the most desirable impedance load but created it in a stable configuration independent of the position of the pots. THE DETAILSIf you waded through the gory details on the High Z-Mode page you may be wondering if the pickups and cable have the same impact here. Not really. Mid-Z has less resistance and as resistance drops the peak in response frequency moves beyond (higher than) the ability of the pickups to sense it, the speakers to reproduce it, and even beyond the human hearing range. One of the factors that make this sound category historically popular is its lower noise than a higher impendence setup. The resistance value of the circuit has a direct impact on the amount of noise you hear: Shot, excess and voltage noise are related to values of resistors used in the design. In Mid and Low Z settings there is less resistance, so there is lower noise than in High Z-Mode. In all Audere Z-Modes, each pickup is amplified independently. This is an improvement over the standard solution; your mix is independent of frequency effects introduced by changes in the volume or balance control settings. |
